Laura had a diagnosis of dyslexia and BESD and whilst awaiting the provision of a statement, was permanently excluded from school due to her challenging behaviours causing a high level of risk to herself, her peers and adults within the school environment.
Laura spent six weeks at the Virtual College (PRU provision) but this proved unsuccessful. Plans were put in place to re-integrate Laura back into a mainstream secondary school, with the use of E-Learning identified as part of Laura’s re-integration package.
Laura accessed E-Learning lessons in the designated area in the school. Laura engaged positively with E-Learning, reporting that she really enjoyed the lessons. This, together with the package of support put in place by the school, enabled Laura to make steady progress in terms of her academic achievement and with regard to her social and emotional needs.
Laura gradually began to attend mainstream lessons, although Laura was still able to access E-Learning for a further six months when the classroom environment proved difficult.
Simon experienced bullying behaviour at school.
His father contacted the Anti-Bullying Service because the bullying behaviour continued to escalate both and in and out of school.
This impacted significantly on Simon’s mental health, with Simon eventually unable to attend school because of his anxiety.
The Anti-Bullying Service referred Simon to Learn-Smart and CAMHS. Simon responded positively to e-learning and engaged well with the learning process. The support that he received allowed him to continue with his education and enabled him to re-integrate successfully back into school.
